CALGARY EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY

A Higher Standard of Early Learning in Calgary

Little Wonders Academy is a private early learning and childcare academy for children from 12 months to 6 years. Our approach brings together Structured Education + STEAM, emergent curriculum, positive behaviour guidance, purposeful play and strong family communication in a safe, thoughtfully prepared environment.

Families choose our Calgary centre for more than care. They choose an academy experience where children are guided with intention, encouraged with warmth and supported as they build confidence, independence, language, social skills and school readiness.

An academy experience designed with intention

Little Wonders Academy was created to offer Calgary families a more thoughtful approach to early childhood education. Children are welcomed into a calm, organized and nurturing environment where daily routines, meaningful relationships and purposeful learning experiences work together.

Our centre welcomes children from 12 months to 6 years through three age-based classrooms: Seedlings for 12–19 months, Sprouts for 19–36 months and Saplings for preschool children from 3 years to 5–6 years old. Each classroom is prepared to support the developmental needs of its age group while maintaining a connected, respectful and family-focused community.

Our educational philosophy

Our philosophy blends Structured Education + STEAM with an emergent curriculum. This balance gives children intentional learning opportunities while leaving room for curiosity, conversation, creativity and discovery.

In the morning, educators guide structured experiences connected to science, technology, engineering, the arts, mathematics, early literacy and problem-solving. In the afternoon, children continue learning through emergent curriculum, play-based exploration, music, transitions, outdoor play and social experiences that support physical, emotional, intellectual, creative and language development.

A PLACE TO LEARN, GROW AND BELONG

Inside our Calgary early learning centre

Purposeful classrooms, weekly enrichment activities, transparent family communication and professional educator practices support a well-rounded early childhood experience.

Thoughtfully prepared environments

Children learn in bright, organized spaces with books, sensory invitations, creative materials, hands-on STEAM opportunities and age-appropriate learning areas. Outdoor play supports movement, coordination, confidence and healthy physical development.

Three developmental classrooms

Seedlings: 12–19 months.
Sprouts: 19–36 months.
Saplings: 3 years to 5–6 years old.

Weekly enrichment experiences

Each week, enrichment partners such as Jumping Jellies and Soccer Heroes visit the centre to provide one-hour classroom activities that support movement, coordination, confidence, teamwork and joyful learning.

Education, care and family partnership

Our program brings education and care together through predictable routines, warm educator relationships and developmentally appropriate learning goals. Educators observe each child’s interests, needs and abilities, then plan experiences that support growth in language, social skills, life skills, creativity, problem-solving and school readiness.

Children are encouraged to learn with purpose, communicate respectfully, build friendships, try new skills and feel confident as they prepare for the next stage of education.

What families can expect

Families can expect clear communication, transparent policies and a professional early learning experience in Calgary. Children receive healthy morning and afternoon snacks that consider dietary needs such as gluten-free or vegan options, and families provide a nut-free packed lunch.

Before starting care, families are guided through centre expectations, positive behaviour guidance, video monitoring consent, classroom routines, planned closures and the enrolment journey.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR GUIDANCE

A guidance approach rooted in connection

At Little Wonders Academy, we believe behaviour is communication. Children learn best when they feel safe, valued and connected. Our approach supports emotional regulation, social skills, respectful relationships and family collaboration.

Core principles

Prevention First: clear routines, visual cues and developmentally appropriate expectations.
Connection Before Correction: strong relationships are the foundation of guidance.
Respectful Communication: language is kind, clear and solution-focused.
Learning, Not Punishment: challenges are treated as opportunities for teaching.

Strategies we use

Educators establish predictable routines, provide choices and voice, model social skills, acknowledge positive behaviour, offer regulation spaces and use natural or logical consequences when support is needed.

When extra support is needed

We observe patterns, collaborate with families, develop an Individual Support Plan when needed and involve specialists or community supports when appropriate.

FAMILY TRANSPARENCY

Clear policies for confident families

Families receive clear information before enrolment, including behaviour guidance, video monitoring consent, communication expectations, centre closures and the steps in the enrolment journey.

Video monitoring consent

Classroom monitoring supports child safety, quality assurance and supervision. Only visual live-stream footage is available; there is no audio recording. Parent access is limited to their child’s assigned room, and recording, screenshots, downloads or redistribution are prohibited.

Centre closures

Planned closures include 10 days during Christmas time, the 12 statutory holidays in Alberta, Canada, and 6 weekdays for Developmental Professionals Day. The centre calendar runs September to September.

Prohibited practices

Physical punishment or restraint, verbal abuse, threats, sarcasm, denial of basic needs, isolation, exclusion, shaming, humiliation or degrading language are strictly prohibited.
